We provide operation, management and maintenance of the Brno city collector network.

WHAT ARE COLLECTORS

A COLLECTOR IS A WALK-THROUGH UNDERGROUND LINEAR STRUCTURE USED FOR CONDUCTING AND LAYING PIPE AND CABLE UTILITIES.

The stored utilities are thus easily accessible for routine maintenance and do not require excavation and disruption of the road in the event of a breakdown. According to the method of construction, collectors are divided into tunnelled – carried out by conventional underground mining – and excavated – collectors are constructed in an excavated trench in the ground or road. The collector network is further subdivided into primary collectors, which are used for long-distance network transit. The installation depth of the primary collectors is approximately 30 m below the surface. Secondary collectors are installed about 6–8 m below the surface and serve to distribute the networks directly to individual buildings.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF COLLECTORS

The total length of the collectors under Brno exceeds 21 km. On the territory of the Czech Republic, with the exception of Prague, the construction and use of collectors on a larger scale, with a long-term development concept and the provision of operational conditions to ensure operation, was not carried out in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The maintenance of the collectors is carried out by the staff of the Collectors Department with the expertise of an operating electrician and a locksmith. In addition to these core disciplines, individual staff members are trained in other disciplines and skills to ensure smooth operations in the downstream areas of the Department. Maintenance activities consist mainly of ensuring the functionality and safe operation of the collector’s own equipment, air handling units, pumps and other equipment or technologies of the collector’s own equipment.
